Mrs. Helen Cox Stewart, 89, of Lillington passed away Monday, December 9, 2019 at Central Harnett Hospital in Lillington. She was born in Randolph County, the daughter of the late Joseph Dalton Cox and Helen Gibson Cox. Helen was also preceded in death by her husband, Neil A. Stewart, Sr.; daughter, Marian C. Stewart; grandson, Joseph Brown; brother, Joseph Dalton “Sonny” Cox; sister, Emma Cox Allen and son-in-law, Norman Keith McNeill.
Helen worked as a hairdresser for over 40 years at Mary Lee’s Beauty Shop and later owned Helen’s Beauty Shop in Lillington. She enjoyed cooking, working in the yard and was an avid bird watcher. Helen also was a seamstress who made clothing for her children.
Helen is survived by her son Neil A. “Nick” Stewart, Jr. and wife Frances of Raleigh; 4 daughters, Diane S. Yount and husband Bill of Sherrills Ford, NC; Agnes McNeill Taylor and husband Randy of Broadway; Wanda Brown and husband Tony of Bunnlevel; Melissa Stephenson and husband Joey of Duncan; 8 grandchildren, Matt Stewart, Allison Brock, Alex Keith McNeill, Jarrod McNeill, Heather Wilkins, Justin Brown, Eric Baggett and Erin Baggett; 3 great-grandchildren, Camden Stewart Brock, Maddox Ryan McNeill and Logan James Wilkins; 7 step-grandchildren, Brandon and Bristol Taylor, Caleb Spengel, Austin and Brandon Wright, Darren and Tiffany Wilkins.
She is also survived by sister-in-law, Marie Stewart Jaggers; 2 brothers-in-law, Caviness R. Stewart and James Garner Stewart.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Winston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30-2:45 PM in the church sanctuary and other times at the home of Tony and Wanda Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring Hill UMC Cemetery Fund; Lillington UMC in memory of Marian Stewart; Antioch Baptist Church in memory of Joseph Brown.
