Mrs. Janice Stewart Harrington, 66, of Broadway passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at her home. She was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late Lloyd George and Mary Elizabeth Patterson Stewart. Janice was a life long educator in Harnett County serving as a classroom teacher, an assistant principal and as a principal. She retired in 2007 as principal of Western Harnett Middle School. She was dedicated to her profession and impacted the lives of many students, teachers and co-workers. Janice inspired many people to become educators as she demonstrated her love for children, believing that all children had the potential to learn. She was loved by all that knew her. Janice was a member of several educational sororities and organizations. She was also an active member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, member of the Staff Parish Committee, Church Council and various other church offices. Janice was also a member of the chancel choir and actively participated in many Bible studies. She is preceded in death by a brother, Lenwood Ray Stewart; sister-in-law, Jane Stewart and mother-in-law, Mildred McLeod Harrington.

Janice is survived by her husband of 35 years, William D. “Billy” Harrington, III of the home; son, William D. Harrington, IV and wife Nicole of Raleigh; brother, Frank Stewart of Lillington; 3 sisters, Norma Hamilton and husband Bobby, Gwen Cox and husband Vernon, Cathy Jackson and husband Roger all of Lillington and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Spring Hill United Methodist Church in Lillington with Rev. Dr. Jerome Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 PM and other times at the home.
